Apple’s retail experience is re-writing the books on customer-vendor interaction while Sprint and the AT&T store employ a traditional phone company, take a number, and wait model. Having breezed through the 5th Ave Apple Temple, the Sprint store is particularly painful. I recommend purchasing the Pre at Best Buy. Palm? I had one of those in the 90's. Are they still around? Seriously, I've used the Pre, and in short, it's not even close to the iPhone. It's a shame that such a great company like Palm sat around on their asses for a decade, while everyone else was busy developing new software.
